Abstract

The study of literacy activities involves also the quality of reading. The study on literacy that has been carried out by researchers is in the form of literacy level studies. This needs to be supported by literature-based research studies. This research is intended to analyze figures and characterizations in the 2018 edition of Kompas daily. The purpose of this research is to describe the results of character analysis and characterization in the Kompas short story. Thus, this research is expected to provide benefits in the form of literature literature study, especially the intrinsic elements of the character and characterization of the main characters and references to literary researchers and short story writers. This study was a descriptive qualitative type with a sample sample of the Kompas edition of 2018. The results of the study showed that 10 short stories from 12 short stories used the type of protagonist, 8 of 12 were developing figures, and 10 of the 12 main shops in the short story were typical in the community. The characterization technique is dominated by dramatic or indirect techniques.
