Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and social interaction among HoYoverse gacha game players, particularly those who play Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero. The study involved a total of 126 respondents who were active university students aged 18–25 years, had played at least one of the aforementioned gacha games for a minimum of 1 hour per day during the past month. The respondents were selected using the snowball sampling technique. This study employed a quantitative approach, with data collected through an online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. The data were collected using scales specifically developed for this study, based on the Self-Determination Theory (SDT) proposed by Deci and Ryan (2000) for the FOMO variable, while the social interaction variable was based on Soekanto's (2015) theory. The results of the Pearson correlation analysis showed a correlation coefficient of 0.883 with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000. These results indicate a significant relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and social interaction among HoYoverse gacha game players.
