Abstract

Bacground: Menarche is the first menstruation experienced by adolescent girls, marking the onset of reproductive maturity. Lack of knowledge about menarche can lead to feelings of anxiety, fear, confusion, and unpreparedness for the physical and psychological changes that occur. One way to increase adolescents' knowledge about menarche is through health education. Objective: A difference in knowledge regarding menarche was observed before and after the provision of menarche education at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Method: This study employed a quantitative research method with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design. The sample consisted of 49 respondents who met the inclusion criteria of being female students who had not yet experienced menarche, selected using the total sampling technique. The study was conducted on June 12, 2026. Data were collected using a questionnaire and an educational intervention on menarche knowledge. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: Before receiving the educational intervention, 13 respondents (26.5%) had good knowledge, 25 respondents (51.0%) had moderate knowledge, and 11 respondents (22.4%) had poor knowledge. After receiving menarche education, there was an improvement in respondents' knowledge, as indicated by an increase in the number of respondents with good knowledge to 26 (53.1%), while 19 respondents (38.8%) had moderate knowledge and 4 respondents (8.2%) had poor knowledge. The statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.001 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference in knowledge levels before and after the menarche education intervention. Conclusion: There was a significant difference in the level of knowledge regarding menarche among young girls before and after receiving education. Menarche education was effective in increasing the knowledge of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students. Suggestion: It is expected that schools and teachers provide regular education about menarche, while parents provide support and guidance to female students. Future researchers are expected to investigate readiness behavior in facing menarche.
