Abstract

Background: Cesarean section is a major surgical procedure that often causes anxiety in mothers before undergoing surgery. Family support is one of the important factors that may influence the psychological condition of patients during the preoperative period. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between family support and anxiety levels in preoperative cesarean section patients at a private hospital in Palembang City. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 36 preoperative cesarean section patients selected using a consecutive sampling technique. The instruments used were a family support questionnaire and the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Spearman’s Rho test. Results: The results showed that most respondents were in the early middle adulthood age group (26–35 years) (58.3%), had a senior high school education level (58.3%), and were mostly multiparous (58.3%). Most respondents experienced severe anxiety (38.9%), while family support was mostly at a moderate level (47.2%). The Spearman’s Rho test showed a correlation coefficient of 0.652 with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a strong and significant relationship between family support and anxiety levels. Conclusion: In conclusion, there is a significant and strong relationship between family support and anxiety levels in preoperative cesarean section patients.
