Abstract

Background : Elementary school children, aged 6-12, are in a period of growth and development, both physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally. At this stage, children begin to think logically and follow rules. Concentration in learning is the ability to focus attention during the learning process. One factor that influences concentration in learning is breakfast, which provides energy and nutrients for the brain before school activities. Objective : To determine the picture of learning concentration in elementary school children who have breakfast and those who do not have breakfast at indriasana Elementary School, Palembang. Methods : This research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 100 fifth and sixth grade students selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a breakfast observation sheet and a 5x5 Grid Concentration Test, then analyzed univariately. Result : The results of this study on the characteristics obtained the most age is 11 years male (54%), the average mother's education is secondary education as many as 64 respondents (64%), and the average mother's occupation as a housewife as many as 55 respondents (55%). A total of 74 respondents (74%) who have breakfast and 26 respondents (26%) who do not have breakfast, the concentration of respondents' learning is sufficient concentration as many as 68 respondents (68%), and respondents who have breakfast have a good learning concentration category (100%). Conclusion: Most students had sufficient concentration in their studies, and the majority had breakfast before going to school. Among those with sufficient concentration, the majority had breakfast before going to school. Suggestion : The results of this study are expected to encourage children to have breakfast before school to support their concentration in learning.
