Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid, effective, and practical cursive writing assessment rubric for use in Indonesian language learning in fifth grade elementary schools. This type of research is a research and development (R&D) that adapts the 4D model from Thiagarajan. In accordance with the scope of the study, the development stages are limited to the develop stage, which includes define, design, and develop. This limitation was made due to the limited time of the study. The research subjects consisted of three expert validators, three fifth grade elementary school educators, and nine fifth grade elementary school students involved in a limited trial. Data collection techniques used a rubric validation sheet, educator response questionnaires, and the results of students' cursive writing assessments. The validation results showed that the developed rubric obtained an average score of 4.51 with a validity percentage of 90.22% so it is included in the very valid category. The results of educator responses obtained an average score of 3.69 with a percentage of 92.25% which is included in the very good category. A limited trial demonstrated that the rubric was effective, based on the results of assessments on nine students, which showed an average score of 75, categorized as good. Thus, the developed assessment rubric met the criteria for content and practical validity and demonstrated effective results in the limited trial during the development stage.
