Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition characterized by persistently elevated blood pressure and is often referred to as a silent killer because it can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. In addition to pharmacological treatment, hypertension can be managed through non-pharmacological therapies, one of which is Slow Stroke Back Massage. This massage technique, performed with gentle and slow strokes on the back, promotes relaxation, reduces stress, improves blood circulation, and helps lower blood pressure. Objective: To analyze the results of evidence-based nursing care using the slow stroke back massage technique in reducing blood pressure among patients with hypertension. Methods: This study employed a case study approach involving three hypertensive patients at Bhayangkara Moh. Hasan Hospital, Palembang. Data were collected through interviews, physical examinations, implementation of the Slow Stroke Back Massage technique for three consecutive days, and evaluation of the intervention outcomes. Results: The implementation of SSBM resulted in a decrease in blood pressure in all participants. The average blood pressure of Mrs. S decreased from 149/83 mmHg to 139/80 mmHg, Mrs. R from 208/120 mmHg to 198/120 mmHg, and Mrs. K from 140/84 mmHg to 128/73 mmHg. Based on the measurements taken on the first and last days of intervention, Mrs. S's blood pressure decreased from 153/85 mmHg to 143/82 mmHg, Mrs. R's from 201/125 mmHg to 196/128 mmHg, and Mrs. K's from 140/85 mmHg to 120/70 mmHg. The greatest reduction was observed in Mrs. K, while the smallest reduction was found in Mrs. R. Conclusion: The application of Slow Stroke Back Massage for three consecutive days was effective in helping to reduce and control blood pressure in patients with hypertension. Therefore, SSBM can be considered a complementary non-pharmacological therapy in the management of hypertension.
