Abstract

Academic anxiety is a psychological condition experienced by students when facing academic demands such as assignments, exams, grades, and changes in the school environment. This condition is particularly common among 10th-grade students who are navigating the transition from junior high to senior high school. This study aims to examine the relationship between social support, adjustment, and academic anxiety among 148 10th-grade students at SMA Xaverius 3 Palembang. A quantitative method utilizing purposive sampling was employed. Data were collected using scales measuring social support, adjustment, and academic anxiety, and subsequently analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple correlation techniques with the aid of SPSS. The results showed that social support had a negative and significant relationship with academic anxiety (r = −0.284; p < 0.001). Adjustment had no significant relationship with academic anxiety (r = −0.064; p = 0.437). Simultaneously, social support and adjustment had a significant relationship with low-level academic anxiety (r = 0.286; p = 0.002). Thus, the higher the social support received by students, the lower their academic anxiety, while self-adjustment alone does not show a significant relationship with academic anxiety
