Abstract

Smoking behavior is a popular behavioral deviation among adolescents. Low self-control is often identified as a key factor that prevents adolescents from managing their behavior, making them easily influenced by smoking. This study aims to analyze the role of peer conformity and self-control on smoking behavior among adolescents in Village X. This study employed a quantitative approach. The research population consisted of adolescents residing in Village "X". Sampling was conducted using the accidental sampling technique, with the respondent criteria including: adolescents aged 13-18 years, possessing smoking behavior, and being active smokers for more than 1 month. Data collection instruments utilized Likert scales to measure peer conformity, self-control, and adolescent smoking behavior. The data were statistically analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis with the aid of the SPSS program. The hypothesis testing results indicated a significant simultaneous role of peer conformity and self-control on adolescent smoking behavior, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) and a joint contribution of 75.1%. Partially, the self-control variable has a significant role in smoking behavior, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) and an effective contribution of 49.9%. Conversely, the peer conformity variable individually does not play a significant role in smoking behavior, with a significance value of p = 0.051 (p > 0.05) and an effective contribution of 25.1%.
