Abstract
This study aimed to explore marital satisfaction among Batak-Javanese interethnic couples. The study employed a qualitative approach using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Participants consisted of two Batak-Javanese married couples, with Batak wives and Javanese husbands, who had been married for more than ten years. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using IPA procedures. The findings revealed four major themes contributing to marital satisfaction: communication, commitment, adaptation, and support. Open communication enabled couples to resolve conflicts and develop mutual understanding. Commitment served as the foundation for maintaining the marital relationship. Adaptation was reflected in the adjustment to cultural differences, language, and daily habits. Support from both spouses and family members strengthened the relationship and helped couples cope with challenges in interethnic marriages. These findings indicate that marital satisfaction among Batak-Javanese couples is influenced by their ability to maintain effective communication, sustain commitment, adapt to cultural differences, and provide mutual support.
