Abstract
This research is motivated by the phenomenon of religious conversion in Indonesia, which not only involves a change of religion but also the process of forming a new religious identity amid the social and cultural dynamics of a diverse society. Individuals who convert often face challenges such as family rejection, changes in social relationships, and identity confusion, yet may also discover new spiritual meaning and self-acceptance. This study aims to understand the process of religious identity formation following religious conversion. A qualitative approach was employed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) method. Research subjects were selected through purposive sampling, with the criterion that participants were adults who had officially converted to a different religion. Three individuals served as research subjects. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field notes, and recorded interview documentation, which were then analyzed interpretively to identify themes within participants' subjective experiences. The findings indicate that religious identity formation following conversion occurs through three main processes: the search for a new religious identity, identity adjustment, and identity consolidation, the last of which is characterized by the establishment of a strong commitment to the adopted religion.
