Abstract

This study explores the psychological dynamics of hope among male adolescents in conflict with the law undergoing rehabilitation at the Social Rehabilitation Center for Children in Conflict with the Law (PSRABH) X. It examines how these adolescents engage in meaning-making processes to reconstruct their future orientations. A qualitative phenomenological design was employed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and observations with two participants. The analysis focused on the core components of Snyder’s Hope Theory: goals, agency thinking, and pathways thinking. The findings reveal three primary themes: (1) goal redefinition, where participants shifted from idealistic career ambitions to pragmatif goals centered on filial piety and family economic restoration; (2) strengthened agency, driven by a sense of "mastery" acquired through vocational skills (e.g., welding) and moral commitment to their parents; and (3) pathway navigation, characterized by a preference for informal employment sectors to bypass educational barriers and social stigma. Guilt toward parents emerged as a center catalyst for behavioral change and the development of willpower. The study suggests that hope among these adolescents is reparative and compensatory.
