Abstract

Children in conflict with the law (ABH) are vulnerable to stigmatization, which influences the formation of their self-concept. Research on the organizational structure of ABH's self-concept is still limited. The purpose of this study was to analyze the self-concept of ABH undergoing rehabilitation at the Social Rehabilitation Center for Children in Conflict with the Law (PSRABH) in South Sumatra. This study employed a qualitative case study design. The primary subject was a 17-year-old male juvenile offender, along with additional informants from the center's administrators and peers. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, document analysis, and psychological assessments (CFIT, graphic tests, Wartegg test). Thematic analysis and data triangulation were conducted using Carolin Showers' self-concept organizational theory framework (valence, organization, hierarchy). The results of the study identified nine themes: stronger practical competence than academic, sensitive to social judgment, selective and closed social relations, self-change process, strong emotional relationship with mother, efforts to maintain a positive self-image, sensitivity to social comparison, suppressed emotions, and moral and religious values. The structure of the subject's self-concept showed a compartmentalized pattern with the mother as the highest hierarchical aspect. Skills-based rehabilitation programs and social support provide the foundation for self-integration. This study concludes that the self-concept of children with disabilities (ABH) is complex with a segmented structure, but has the potential for change through relational support and competency experiences. This research enhances understanding of the psychological impact of the legal process on ABH and provides implications for interventions in rehabilitation institutions.
