Abstract

Background: Complementary therapy has recently become an issue in many countries. It is increasingly being used for various reasons, including personal beliefs, cost considerations, concerns about the side effects of chemical medications, and expectations of recovery. One of the commonly chosen methods is warm water foot soaking and foot massage. These therapies have the potential to reduce blood pressure through relaxation mechanisms and peripheral vasodilation, which are supported by scientific evidence. Purpose: To analyze the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) of warm water foot soak therapy and foot massage in nursing care for patients with hypertension. Methods: This implementation used an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) case study design involving three patients with hypertension. The intervention consisted of warm water foot soaking (approximately 5 liters at a temperature of 38–40°C) and foot massage administered once daily for three days, with blood pressure measurements taken before and after each session. The clients continued taking their medications according to the physician’s instructions. Results: There was a decrease in blood pressure: Mrs. S from 170/100 to 150/80 mmHg, Mrs. L from 170/80 to 150/80 mmHg, and Mr. F from 165/90 to 130/70 mmHg. Conclusion: Warm water foot soaking and foot massage are effective non-pharmacological interventions for reducing blood pressure and enhancing comfort in patients with hypertension. Recommendation: Warm water foot soaking and foot massage therapy are recommended to be provided through patient education as complementary interventions for patients with hypertension, combined with adherence to medical therapy.
