Abstract

Background : Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood and is a group that is vulnerable to changes in the surrounding environment. Adolescence is often filled with strong feelings and sometimes emotions are caused by differences in feelings both for the adolescent themselves and for the adults around them. Family support is a form of assistance and attention provided by family members, both through words and concrete actions, to support and motivate individuals in achieving a good learning process. Preliminary studies show that good family support helps shape good learning motivation. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and learning motivation in adolescents, as well as describe the characteristics of respondents. Method: The study used a total sampling method on 43 respondents. Data collection used a family support and learning motivation questionnaire, then analyzed using Kendall Tau-b. Results: A total of 43 respondents with a median age of 14 years, the majority of whom were male (67.4%). The majority had low family support (60.5%) and low learning motivation (48.8%). There was a strong positive relationship between family support and learning motivation (τ = 0.542; p = 0.000). Conclusion: This study shows that family support has a strong positive relationship with learning motivation in junior high school students. Suggestion: It is recommended to expand the research variables so that the results obtained are more comprehensive by adding other factors that may influence learning motivation, and can increase the number of respondents so that the research results are more accurate.
