Abstract

Background : DBE is a non-pharmacological intervention that is currently trending for lowering blood pressure through relaxation. Hypertension can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure, making early control important. DBE is needed as a supportive therapy in addition to medication. Objective : Knowing the effectiveness of DBE on blood pressure in hypertension patients in Palembang City Methods : Quantitative research with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design. The population was 182 people. A sample of 70 respondents (35 intervention, 35 control) was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets. Univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Mann-Whitney U test. Result : The majority of respondents in both groups were pre-elderly (68.6%), female (intervention 82.9%; control 60%), had a secondary education, and most were taking amlodipine (88.6%). The intervention group had a higher proportion of unemployed individuals (65.7%) and those who had been ill for ≥1 year (60%), whereas the control group had a higher proportion of employed individuals (60%) and those who had been ill for <1 year (51.4%). Before the intervention, all had stage 1 hypertension. After DBE, the blood pressure reduction in the intervention group was greater (systolic 9.26 mmHg; diastolic 7.23 mmHg) compared to the control group (systolic 4.54 mmH,; diastolic 3.91 mmHg). The Mann-Whitney test showed p=0.013 (Z= -2.226, mean rank intervention 30.86, control 40.14). Conclusion : There is a difference in blood pressure post-test and post-test between the intervention group and the control group in hypertensive patients Suggestion : DBE can independently lower blood pressure in people with hypertension. Key Words : Blood pressure, DBE, hypertension
