Abstract

Introduction: Invasive therapy is one of the procedures that can cause fear and anxiety in preschool children during hospitalization. This anxiety may lead children to refuse medical procedures, thereby hindering the healing process, worsening the child’s condition, and increasing the length of hospital stay. Nursing interventions that can be applied to reduce children’s anxiety include play therapy, one of which is storytelling. Storytelling play therapy is an activity that involves storytelling by utilizing the power of narrative to convey messages, provide entertainment, and help children understand and process their experiences. Storytelling aims to help children cope with anxiety, particularly when facing invasive procedures, such as intravenous cannulation. Objective : The effectiveness of hand puppet storytelling in reducing anxiety among children undergoing invasive therapy has been identified. Methods:. This study used a descriptive case study design with a nursing process approach involving 3 respondents. The intervention provided was storytelling play therapy using hand puppets for 10 minutes. Results: The study results indicate that storytelling play therapy using hand puppets was effective in reducing anxiety levels in children prior to intravenous infusion. Anxiety levels decreased from 5 to 3 for An. E and An. R, and from 4 to 2 for An. N. Suggestion: Storytelling play therapy using hand puppets can be used to reduce anxiety levels in preschool children undergoing invasive therapy.
