Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of leverage and sales growth on financial distress, focusing on consumer non-cyclicals companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2021-2024. The consumer non-cyclicals sub-sector was chosen because it has great potential and promising prospects, but with increasingly fierce market competition, this industry faces a number of challenges in maintaining its financial performance. Financial distress in this study is measured using the Grover method. The data used is secondary data. The population in this study is all manufacturing companies in the consumer non-cyclicals sub-sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, and 454 samples were obtained. Hypothesis testing was conducted using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that leverage has a negative effect on financial distress, while sales growth has a positive effect on financial distress. This study is expected to provide benefits for companies in increasing their awareness of potential financial distress, serve as consideration for companies and external parties in decision making, and become a reference for other researchers in the future.
