Abstract

Background : Tuberculosis is a disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pulmonary tuberculosis is spread through the air or droplets. Knowledge of tuberculosis transmission prevention is important for families living in the same household as someone with pulmonary TB. Knowledge and attitudes also play a crucial role in determining family behavior in preventing the transmission of pulmonary TB. Objective : To determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with behavior in preventing the transmission of pulmonary TB in families of pulmonary TB sufferers. Methods : This study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 51 respondents, using a total sampling technique. The research instrument used was a questionnaire on knowledge, attitudes, and behavior regarding prevention of pulmonary TB transmission. Bivariate data analysis used Kendall's tau-b test. Result : The results of this study indicate that respondents have an age range of 17-59 years. The majority of respondents are female, 30 (58.8%). The majority of respondents have a secondary education level of 30 (58.8%). The results of the Kendall's Tau-B test on the variable of knowledge with behavior to prevent transmission of pulmonary TB obtained a p-value of 0.002 < 0.05. And for the variable of attitude with behavior to prevent transmission of pulmonary TB obtained a p-value of 0.291 > 0.05. Conclusion : There is a significant relationship between knowledge and behavior in preventing the transmission of pulmonary TB in families of pulmonary TB sufferers in the Palembang Social Health Center Work Area. Suggestion : Families of TB sufferers are expected to increase their knowledge and positive attitudes so that they are able to consistently implement TB transmission prevention behavior in their daily lives Key Words : Behavior, Transmission Prevention, Attitude, Pulmonary TB, Knowledge Level
