Abstract

Background: Menarche is one of the primary signs of the onset of puberty in adolescent girls. Lack of knowledge about Menarche can lead to anxiety, fear, and unpreparedness for physical and psychological changes. Health education is an important preventative measure to increase adolescents' understanding of Menarche. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of providing Menarche health education using audiovisual media compared to booklets on adolescents' knowledge levels. Method: This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample was female students who had not yet experienced Menarche at MI Miftahul Jannah, with a total sampling technique of 50 respondents. The research instrument was a Menarche knowledge questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods. Results: The results of the study showed no difference in the pre-test and post-test knowledge variables (p>0.001) in the booklet group. Likewise, in the audiovisual group there was no difference in the pre-test and post-test on the knowledge variable (p>0.001). The mean rank value obtained from the post-booklet results was 27.36 and post-audiovisual 23.64, the difference in mean rank was 3.72, which showed that the results of the Menarche health education booklet were better even though the p-value was 0.363>0.05.
