Abstract

Background :contraceptive injection is a method of birth control that contains the hormones progesterone and estrogen. There are two types: combination and progestin, with the duration of use varies. The effects include increased blood pressure, risk of blood vessel thromboembolism, myocardial infarction, and ischemic stroke. Nurses as an educator about the choice of hormonal contraception. Objective :To know factor affecting the blood pressure of injectable contraceptive users. Methods :This quantitative research used a cross-sectional method at the Sukarami Midwife Independent Practice with a population of 219 acceptors and a total sample of 63 respondents determined by purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and measurement using ordinal logistic regression. Result : Respondents using combined injectable contraception reached 50.80%, with an average duration of use of 4.69 years, and 66.60% had normal blood pressure. No significant relationship was found between the type of contraceptive injection (p=1.000) and duration of use (p=0.004) with blood pressure. In addition, a significant effect of duration of use on blood pressure was found (p=0.008), but not for type of contraceptive injection (p=0.925), with a covariance of 2.88% between the two variables. Other findings indicate that after five years of use, progestin injections have a greater impact than combination methods. Conclusion : Duration of use has a more significant effect on blood pressure than the type of injectable contraception. Suggestion :Future researchers can investigate confounding factors that affect the blood pressure of injectable contraceptive users and the duration of hormonal contraceptive use other than injectable contraceptives.
