Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a disease that most sufferers are unaware of and its symptoms when experiencing. Hypertension is a major cause of disease and death worldwide, contributing to 10.8 million deaths annually. Deaths due to hypertension occur because the majority are not aware of it, increasing the number of strokes, heart disease, and other chronic diseases in a short time or unknown to the family. Purpose: The application given, aims to analyze drinking lemon water for hypertension sufferers, whether lemon has the effectiveness in smoothing blood pressure through its flavonoid content. Metods: This research is a case study using nursing care, the number of respondents involved was 3 respondents who suffered from hypertension. Results: The implementation carried out was the application of drinking lemon water to determine the decrease in blood pressure. The intervention was carried out for 4 days using an aneroid sphymomanometer. Of the 3 respondents after the intervention from day 1 to day 4, the results of this intervention showed a decrease after drinking lemon water on day 2, but after days 3 and 4 it was very fluctuating and tended to be stable at the same blood pressure as day 2. On day 3, it remained stable after drinking lemon water and the blood pressure of each respondent was measured. Conclusion: Patients with hypertension, who received health education, experienced an average blood pressure reduction of only 5 mmHg in both systolic and diastolic pressures. Suggestion: The use of lemon water is not recommended due to the higher flavonoid content in citrus fruits, which is essential for lowering blood pressure. Variables such as exercise and pharmacological medication are still needed, and further consultation with medical colleagues is necessary.
