Abstract
Background: Adolescence is a transitional phase from childhood to adulthood, experiencing growth and development both physically, psychologically, and intellectually. At this age, teenagers enjoy challenges and tend to spend their social time in cyberspace using gadgets. The impact of continuous gadget use causes addiction, which can have an impact on disrupting social interactions such as isolation, not caring about the environment, being more emotional, and even risking harm to themselves and others. To overcome this, the role of parents or parenting styles are needed so that teenagers do not experience gadget dependence and disrupt social interactions. Method: Quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach, a sample of 83 with a total sampling technique, data collection tools using questionnaires and analysis of this research using the Kendall tau-b test and Chi-square test. Results: Characteristically, the respondents were mostly 14 years old, 47 (56%) male, 59 (71.1%) moderate gadget use, 64 (77.1%) democratic parenting styles, and 59 (71.1%) good social interaction. Bivariate analysis found a relationship between gadget use and social interaction in respondents (p-value = 0.037), and no relationship between parenting styles and social interaction in adolescents (p-value = 0.935). Recommendation: Respondents are expected to be wiser in using gadgets and maintain good communication with parents, friends, and others to maintain healthy and balanced social interactions. Suggestion: Respondents are expected to be wiser in using gadgets and to maintain good communication with parents, friends and people around them so that social interactions remain healthy and balanced.
