Abstract
Background: Learning concentration is an important factor in students' academic success. Modern lifestyle changes, such as increased fast food consumption and high screen time, are suspected to influence students' concentration levels. Objective: To determine whether there is a relationship between fast food consumption and screen time with learning concentration among students. Methods: This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 190 nursing students from the Faculty of Health Sciences at UKMC, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted through univariate and bivariate analyses, with the bivariate analysis performed using Spearman’s Rho correlation test. Results: The average fast-food consumption was 23.32 times per month, screen time was 3184.09 minutes per week, and the average learning concentration score was 98.34. Bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between fast food consumption and learning concentration (p = 0.418), but there was a significant negative relationship between screen time and learning concentration (p = 0.000). Suggestion: Students are advised to limit non-academic digital device use, reduce the habit of consuming instant snacks, and manage study and rest time effectively Conclusion: There is no significant association between fast food consumption and learning concentration, whereas a significant relationship was found between screen time and learning concentration among students Keywords: Fast food, screen time, learning concentration.
