Abstract

Background : adolescents are an age group vulnerable to various changes, including the risk of HIV infection due to a lack of knowledge and risky behaviors. HIV cases in Indonesia continue to rise, including among adolescents. This lack of education means many young people don't understand what HIV is, how it is transmitted, and how to prevent it. HIV education is crucial for increasing knowledge and fostering better attitudes toward preventing HIV transmission. Objective : analyzing differences in knowledge and attitudes before and after providing education about HIV to adolescents. Method : quasi-Experimental Design The Non-Equivalent Control Group. The number of respondents in the study was 106 (intervention: 53 and control: 53). The sampling technique used total sampling. Education used videos and leaflets. Data were collected using questionnaires, analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results : In this study, the characteristics of respondents were obtained for a minimum age of 15 years and a maximum of 17 years, the majority of gender was female in the intervention group and male in the control group. For the bivariate test, the results showed that there was a difference in the level of knowledge before and after being given education with a p-value of 0.005 and there was a difference in attitudes before and after being given education with a p-value of 0.000 in the intervention group. In the control group, there was no difference in knowledge before and after being given HIV education with a p-value of 0.564 and no difference in attitudes before and after being given HIV education with a p-value of 0.311. Conclusion : there is a significant difference in education using video media and leaflets on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescents. Suggestion : this research is expected to be a reference for improving health promotion efforts related to HIV, so that adolescents can prevent risky behavior.
