Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) has risk factors for microvascular complications, one of which is peripheral neuropathy. Poor blood glucose control is accompanied by the duration a person suffers from DM, and it is likely that a person is at risk of developing complications of peripheral neuropathy. The ADA states that about half or 50% of all DM sufferers experience some neurological disorder. Peripheral neuropathy problems if not treated will cause foot ulcers and if not managed properly can lead to amputation. Objective: To determine the factors associated with the incidence of peripheral neuropathy in patients with type II DM Methods: This type of research is a qualitative research with an analytical survey research design with a cross-sectional approach method. The population in this study is DM patients who are members of the Club DM Charitas hospital KM 7 which totals 30 respondents. The sampling technique uses total sampling. The research instrument used TB, BB, Glucometer and Neuropathy Sympthom Score & Neuropathy Deficit Score questionnaire. Results: The majority of the characteristics of the respondents of Club DM Charitas Hospital KM 7 include the majority of 11 (36.7%) respondents, the majority of the 30 respondents were female as many as 21 (70%) respondents and the male gender was 9 (30%) respondents, the majority of respondents took the type of drug Glemipired as many as 17 (56.7%) respondents, the adherence of taking drugs of respondents who routinely took medication in the last month was 15 (50%) There was no association between GDS (P=0.251), BMI (P=0.723) and length of suffering (P=0.787) Conclusions: There was no significant association between GDS, BMI and Lama with DM and the occurrence of peripheral neuropathy in patients with type II DM Suggestion: This study can be a source of information for Club DM to develop screening for DM complications, especially peripheral neuropathy.
