Abstract
Background : Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease that requires long- term treatment and often causes anxiety in patients. Family support plays a crucial role in helping patients cope with anxiety. Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis are susceptible to anxiety due to the physical and emotional stress of undergoing therapy. This anxiety arises in response to uncertain conditions and can affect behavior and treatment adherence. In this regard, family support is a crucial factor in reducing anxiety, preventing emotional isolation, and increasing patient motivation and adherence to therapy, thus contributing to the success of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment. Aim : To determine the relationship between family support and anxiety in pulmonary TB patients at the Merdeka Community Health Center, Palembang. Methodology : This study used a cross-sectional approach with 42 respondents using total sampling. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire. Data analysis used the Kendall's tau test. Result : The results of this study showed that the majority of respondents were in late adulthood (61.9%) and female (69%). Family support was mostly in the insufficient category (78.6%), while anxiety was mostly in the moderate category (78.6%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between family support and anxiety in pulmonary tuberculosis patients (τ = 0.149; p = 0.273). Conclusion : There is no relationship between family support and anxiety in pulmonary TB patients. Suggestion : Healthcare workers need to improve education and counseling for patients' families about the importance of support in tuberculosis treatment. Future research is recommended to include other variables, such as medication adherence or support from healthcare professionals, that could potentially influence patient anxiety. Keywords: Family support, Tuberculosis anxiety.
