Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) at the end stage requires Renal Replacement Therapy. Hemodialysis is used to manage the physical condition. However, hemodialysis can cause side effects such as fatigue, hypotension, and nausea. Anemia and fluid overload can worsen the patient's condition, making proper fluid management and restriction crucial to prevent further complications. Objective: Understanding the Relationship Between Hemoglobin Levels and Adherence to Fluid Intake Restriction with Fatigue in Hemodialysis Patients at Palembang City Hospital. Methods: Quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 49 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 43 respondents using total sampling technique. The instruments used were a questionnaire for adherence to fluid intake restriction, a modified Piper Fatigue Scale, and a Hemoglobin testing device. Result: The research shows that the majority of respondents are around 45 years old, female (58.1%), high school graduates (53.5%), with mild anemia (58.1%), have been undergoing hemodialysis for more than 13 months (62.8%), are non-adherent to fluid restriction (72.1%), and experience moderate fatigue (53.5%). The results of the study at Bayangkara Mohammad Hasan Hospital in Palembang city indicate that there is no significant relationship between Hemoglobin (Hb) levels and fatigue in hemodialysis patients (p-value 0.070), which is greater than α, so (Ha) is rejected and (H0) is accepted. However, there is a significant relationship between adherence to fluid intake restriction and the level of fatigue in hemodialysis patients, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.01). Conclusion: There is no relationship between hemoglobin levels and fatigue, but there is a relationship between adherence to fluid intake restriction and fatigue in hemodialysis patients at Bayangkara Mohammad Hasan Hospital in Palembang city. Suggestion: This study focuses on identifying the causes of fatigue and developing strategies to reduce it, thereby improving the quality of life for patients and reducing the risk of complications.
