Abstract
Background : Chronic kidney failure is a disease caused by the kidneys' inability to filter and remove fluids and waste from the body, necessitating kidney replacement therapy, one of which is hemodialysis. Those undergoing hemodialysis must limit fluid intake to the recommended fluid intake by healthcare professionals. Therefore, it is crucial for patients to have knowledge and family support. Unrestricted fluid intake can lead to edema, shortness of breath, decreased quality of life, and even death. Objective : The relationship between knowledge and family support and adherence to a fluid diet in chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis is known Methods : This quantitative research used an analytical survey design and a cross-sectional approach. The population of patients undergoing hemodialysis was 65, with a total sample size of 65. This study used a questionnaire on knowledge (9 questions), family support (20 questions), and adherence to a liquid diet (14 questions). Bivariate data analysis used the tau-b test. Result : Univariate results showed that 31 respondents (47.7%) had sufficient knowledge, 44 respondents (67.7%) had moderate family support, and 55 respondents (84.6%) had moderate compliance with a liquid diet. Bivariate test results showed that knowledge was associated with compliance with a liquid diet with a p-value of 0.599 and family support was associated with compliance with a liquid diet with a p-value of 0.043 Conclusion : It was found that there was no relationship between knowledge and compliance with a liquid diet and there was a relationship between family support and compliance with a liquid diet. Suggestion : Respondents are expected to increase their knowledge and limit their daily intake and families are expected to provide support in limiting fluids.
