Abstract
Background: Aging is a natural, gradual process. As we age, we tend to experience physical and mental changes. These changes, both physical and mental, can impact self-care and stress. Self-efficacy, defined as the belief in one's ability to control and achieve positive outcomes, is crucial for achieving success in self-care and managing stress. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and self-care behavior and stress levels in the elderly at nursing homes. Method: This study used a quantitative method, descriptive correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 48 people using a total sampling technique. The variables measured were self-efficacy, self-care behavior, and stress levels. The data collection process was carried out door-to-door to each guesthouse at the Indralaya Werdha Home. The measuring instruments used were the General Self-Efficacy Scale questionnaire, the self-care behavior questionnaire, and the Percieved Stress Scale questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Kendall's tau-b test with a significance value of 95%. Results: There is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and self-care behavior in the elderly (τ = 0.348, p = 0.012). There is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and stress levels in the elderly (τ = -0.280, p = 0.038). Suggestion: Developing self-efficacy training programs to increase the self-confidence of the elderly such as socializing, strengthening self-care behavior by maintaining facilities, supporting resources such as adequate places, developing stress management such as exercise and gardening for the elderly.
