Abstract
Background: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency life-saving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. The high mortality rate due to cardiac arrest requires high-quality CPR to improve patient survival, to achieve this, good performance is required. Performance can be influenced by several factors including knowledge and self-efficacy. Objective: To determine the effect of knowledge and self-efficacy on nurses' performance in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the emergency and intensive care rooms at Palembang City Hospital. Methods: Quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach and analytical survey, a sample of 36 with a total sampling technique, data collection tools using questionnaires and data analysis using ordinal logistic regression. Results: There is a relationship between knowledge and self-efficacy (p=0.003), there is a relationship between knowledge and performance (p<0.001), there is a relationship between self-efficacy and performance (p<0.001), there is a simultaneous effect of years of service, knowledge and self-efficacy on performance (R2=0,234; p<0,001), there is a partial effect of years of service on performance (β=-16,29; p=<0,001; OR=8,45) there is a partial effect of knowledge on self-efficacy (β=21,0; p<0,001; OR=1,31), there is no partial effect of knowledge on performance (β=1,14; p=0,414; OR=3,13), there is a partial effect of self-efficacy on performance (β=3,21; p=0,008; OR=24,73) and there is an indirect effect of knowledge on performance mediated by self-efficacy (β=0.437; p=0.004). Sugestion: Respondents need to increase their knowledge to achieve self-efficacy and maximum performance in performing CPR in order to increase the chances of survival in patients experiencing cardiac arrest.
