Abstract
Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a disorder caused by a gradual, irreversible decline in kidney function, leading to the accumulation of metabolic waste products. One therapy available to CKD patients is hemodialysis. The impact of hemodialysis on CKD patients can include physical and psychological challenges affecting their adjustment. Objective:This study aims to determine the description of the self-concept of chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy at Siti Fatimah Regional Hospital, South Sumatra Province. Methods: The research method used was a cross-sectional approach with a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used in this study was total sampling, with 39 respondents meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: The results of this study stated that from male 20 respondents (51.3%), adult age (18-56) 26 respondents (66.7%), primary and secondary education each had 15 respondents (38.5%), and HD duration >12 months 23 respondents (59.0%), negative self-concept as many as 23 respondents (59.0%), negative self-image as many as 16 respondents (41.0%), negative self-ideal 11 respondents (28.2%), negative self-role as many as 17 respondents (43.6%), negative self-esteem as many as 24 respondents (61.5%), negative self-identity as many as 18 respondents (46.2%). Conclusion: The self-concept of respondents undergoing hemodialysis therapy showed that 59.0% (23 respondents) had a negative self-concept. Suggestion: The hospital improves the quality of services in the form of counseling, how to maintain self-concept, thereby helping CKD patients strengthen their self-concept while receiving hemodialysis therapy
