Abstract

This study aims to describe the readability of the ESPS Indonesian Language textbook for the Merdeka Curriculum for grade V of elementary school. The study used a descriptive qualitative method with a qualitative approach and was conducted from March to July 2025. The subjects of the study were teachers in several schools in Palembang, while the objects were the ESPS Indonesian Language textbook for grade V of the Merdeka Curriculum for elementary school. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations and documentation of 36 reading texts. Data analysis in this study used the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Data validity was obtained through researcher triangulation, namely, in the form of a calculation process from various points of view carried out by 3 researchers with the same task. By using the Fry graphic formula calculation, there were 19 reading texts that fit the category, namely there were 100 words in the text, not interspersed with images, formulas, numbers, tables, and blank spaces. Based on the calculation of the level of readability of the text carried out, the results of the level of readability were obtained, namely, 22% or 4 reading texts were suitable for use at grade V level, 72% or 14 reading texts were above level 5 or not suitable for use at grade V level, and there were 6% or 1 reading text that was declared invalid or not suitable for use at any grade level.
