Abstract
ANALYSIS OF THE READING ABILITY OF CLASS VC STUDENTS OF SDK FRATER XAVERIUS 02 PALEMBANG BASED ON GENDER PERSPECTIVE This study aims to analyze the ability to speed reading based on a gender perspective in VC SDK Frater Xaverius 02 Palembang students. The research method used is qualitative descriptive. The subjects in this study are VC class students totaling 22 students, consisting of 11 male students and 11 female students. Data collected through a speed reading test calculated using a stopwatch and a reading content comprehension test using students' worksheets. The results of this study are that the ability to read quickly in the VC SDK Frater Xaverius 02 Palembang class on average male students are in the medium category with a reading speed of 113.0 kpm, while female students are in the medium category with a reading speed of 118.5 kpm. At the level of reading comprehension on average, male students are included in the medium category with a score of 70.26, while female students are included in the medium category with a score of 75.11. In addition, the average speed reading technique error for female students was 25%, while the average speed reading technique error for male students was 33.30%. This suggests that male students tend to make more mistakes, especially on lip movements which are the most dominant mistakes. This shows that VC SDK Xaverius 02 Palembang students have fast reading skills and reading comprehension which is classified as medium with the most mistakes being lip movements in the speed reading technique.
