Abstract

Background: Patients treated in the ICU and fitted with various assistive devices such as breathing aids (mechanical ventilation) tend to have limited activity or mobility, resulting in movement or immobilization. Critically ill patients who experience immobilization or prolonged bed rest can experience adverse effects, including increased oxygen consumption by the patient, decreased strength and muscle mass, which can later lead to pressure ulcers and complications. Therefore, pressure ulcers must be treated as early as possible to prevent complications. One method that can be done to prevent pressure ulcers is effleurage massage, this is because massage can help improve blood flow, so that the body's oxygen needs are sufficient and can prevent the formation of pressure ulcers. Purpose: To conduct an analysis of nursing care for patients at risk of pressure ulcers with the intervention of providing effluent massage on changes in the Braden scale score. Methods: A case study describing nursing care for a patient at risk of pressure ulcers. The measuring tool used to evaluate the risk of pressure ulcers is the Braden scale; the higher the score, the lower the risk of pressure ulcers. Results: After effleurage massage and VCO treatment for 3 days, the results showed that one patient experienced a 4-point increase in scores (from 10 to 14), the second patient experienced a 4-point increase in scores (from 13 to 17), and the third patient experienced a 2-point increase (from 10 to 12). Therefore, it can be concluded that there has been an increase in the Braden scale. Suggestion: Effleurage massage is one way to prevent the risk of pressure ulcers that nurses can apply to prevent complications.
