Abstract
Urea examination is important for early detection of kidney disorders. The sample used is serum obtained from blood that is left for 30 minutes to clot, then centrifuged for 5 minutes at 3,000 rpm. According to BD standards, blood in SST vacutainer tubes clots within 30 minutes. However, in preliminary tests, blood clotted within 15 minutes. This study aims to determine whether there is a difference in urea levels between blood left for 15 minutes and 30 minutes before centrifugation. This study used a quantitative method with an observational analytical design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 38 students selected according to the criteria. Venous blood was placed into two SST vacutainer tubes, then left for 15 and 30 minutes. After that, the blood was centrifuged and urea levels were examined using a Biolabo Kenza 450 TX. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The mean urea level after 15 minutes of standing was 19.94 mg/dL and after 30 minutes it was 20.23 mg/dL. The Wilcoxon test yielded a 2-tailed value of 0.521 (p>0.05), indicating no difference. It was concluded that there was no difference in urea levels between blood left for 15 and 30 minutes before centrifugation, therefore, it is recommended to use different tube variations and methods.
