Abstract

Background : A clinical laboratory is a health laboratory that provides examination services for clinical samples to obtain information about health conditions. In every stage of the quality control procedure for examinations, which consists of three stages: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical. One of the factors that affect the accuracy of test results is the pre-analytical stage, particularly the time the blood is allowed to stand before centrifugation. Glucose is an important parameter in the evaluation of blood sugar levels and is often used in clinical chemistry Objective : This study aims to determine the difference in blood glucose levels at the time of collection compared to blood that has been allowed to stand for 15 minutes and 30 minutes before being centrifuged. Methods : This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional analytical observational design. As many as 38 students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria became subjects of the study. Venous blood samples of ± 3 mL were collected in Vacutainer serum separator tubes, then allowed to stand for 15 minutes and 30 minutes before being centrifuged. Glucose examination was performed using the Bio System BA200 device and analyzed with the Wilcoxon test. Results : The average result of the glucose level examination in blood that was left to stand for 15 minutes is 90,98 mg/dL, while in blood that was left to stand for 30 minutes it is 87.54 mg/dL. The Wilcoxon signed rank test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05).. Conclusion : There is a difference in the glucose level test results when using blood that has been allowed to stand for 15 minutes and for 30 minutes.
