Abstract
According to Regulation PMK No. 43 of 2013, blood must be left to stand for 20–30 minutes. In practice, blood is often centrifuged immediately without being left to stand for 20–30 minutes as required by procedure, in order to speed up results. However, studies have shown differences in cholesterol levels in serum left to clot for 10 and 30 minutes. To determine the total cholesterol levels using blood samples that are centrifuged 5 minutes and 30 minutes after sampel collection. This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Public Health Laboratory Center (BBLKM). The research subjects consisted of 38 students with an age range of 18-24 years. Sampling was carried out using a total sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Paired T-Test with a 95% confidence level. The average total cholesterol level in blood samples centrifuged 5 minutes after collection was 196.34 mg/dL, while in samples centrifuged 30 minutes after collection it was 194.06 mg/dL. The p-value was 0.492 (>0.05). There is no significant difference total cholesterol levels using blood samples centrifuged at 5 minutes and 30 minutes after sampling.
