Abstract
The bottled drinking water (AMDK) industry continues to grow rapidly as public awareness of the importance of clean water consumption increases. PT Segara Makmur Sejahtera as one of the bottled drinking water producers in South Sumatra faces quality problems in the form of a high number of defective products, especially in the Airness brand cup packaging. This study aims to analyze and improve the quality of the production process using the Six Sigma method with the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) approach. The results of observations and data processing in October 2024 show that the most dominant types of defects are non-sticky lid joints (74.11%), deflated cups (16.79%), and less water volume (9.10%) from a total of 4,198 defective units. The Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) calculation of 444,940 and the process sigma value of 3.51 indicate that the production process is still below the ideal industry standard. Analysis using pareto diagrams, fishbone, and control maps shows that the main causes of defects come from human, machine, and material factors. Recommendations for improvement include checking raw materials, conducting daily briefings and creating a machine maintenance schedule. After the implementation, there was a decrease in the number of defective products by 44.86% in the following week, and the control map showed that most of the production points were already within the statistical control limits. These results prove that the Six Sigma method is effective in reducing defects.
