Abstract
Background:. A hernia is a protrusion in the abdominal wall or from the abdominal cavity into another body cavity. One action to treat a hernia is through herniorrhoea surgery. One of the problems that will arise in the post-operative phase is pain in the surgical area. Independent nursing actions that can be taken to reduce pain include non-pharmacological therapy such as finger-hold relaxation techniques. Purpose: To determine the difference in pain levels before and after being given finger grip relaxation therapy to post-herniorrhoea surgery patients. Method: This research uses descriptive research with a case study approach. The population is all post-op herniorrhaphy patients. The data collection tool uses the NRS questionnaire. Results: Based on the results of data analysis, from age characteristics it was found that the average age of those suffering from hernias was > 65 years and the average duration of suffering from hernias was < 1 year. The pain scale felt before the finger grip relaxation therapy was carried out was on average on a moderate scale (5-6) and after the finger hold relaxation therapy was carried out the average pain scale was mild (2-4) with a duration of finger hold relaxation therapy of 3 minutes on each finger which was carried out for 3 days. Recommendation: It is hoped that patients who will undergo surgery can apply the finger grip relaxation technique to reduce pain
