Abstract
Background: The high number of cases of patients who do not finish meals and low knowledge about the importance of intake can have a serious impact on the patient's healing process, thereby increasing morbidity and mortality which will increase the length of treatment and financing. The role of nurses as educators is very important to increase knowledge in patients. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of patient education on knowledge about nutritional intake for the disease healing process in the internal medicine room. Methods: The research was quantitative with a Quasi Experimental Design approach with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population is patients who are hospitalized in the internal medicine room with a sample of 60. Sampling was taken using NonProbability Sampling techniques and data collection using pre-test and post-test questionnaires regarding the level of knowledge of respondents about the importance of nutritional intake for the disease healing process. The research was conducted from November 10, 2024 to December 10, 2024 and was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and the Mannwhitney test. Results: With the Wilcoxon test, the p-value pre-post test of the intervention group (p<0.001) was obtained so that H01 was rejected and there was a significant difference in knowledge with a decrease in mean rank of 1.03. The pre-post test value of the control group (p=1,000) so that H02 was accepted and there was no difference in knowledge. The Mannwhitney test in the post test between the control group and the intervention was obtained (p<0.001) so that H03 was rejected and there was a difference in knowledge. Conclusion: There was a significant influence between the provision of education about the importance of nutritional intake for the disease healing process and the level of knowledge of respondents. Suggestion: For nurses to maximize the provision of education about the importance of nutritional intake for the disease healing process in the Internal Medicine Department of Charitas Hospital Arga Makmur.
