Abstract
Background: Proper management is important to address the issue of LBW (Low Birth Weight) infants. Management of Low Birth Weight Infants includes care in an incubator in the hospital. An alternative method that is more effective and efficient is needed, namely kangaroo care (PMK). Objective: To determine the physiological differences in the weight of low birth weight (LBW) infants before and after receiving PMK in the Perinatal Room of the Palembang City Hospital. Method: Quantitative research, with a quasi-experimental design, a sample of 30 respondents using Accidental sampling sampling technique. The groups were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group was given PMK actions for 3 consecutive days, while the control group did not receive PMK. The measurement tool used was an observation sheet. The univariate and bivariate data analysis techniques used are the Wilcoxon Test and the Paired T-Test. Results: The characteristics of male respondents in the intervention group were 8 people (53.3%) and 10 people (66.7%) in the control group, with parents having a bachelor's degree being 8 people (53.3%). Parents' occupations in the intervention group: Housewife (IRT) 9 people (60.0%), control group: Private Employee 7 people (46.7%). The birth weight of low birth weight infants in the intervention group was 12 people (80%), while in the control group it was 10 people (66.7%). There is a difference in pre and post weight of low birth weight babies who received PMK with a p-value of 0.01. Conclusion: There is a difference in pre and post-weight of LBW infants who received Kangaroo Care. Suggestion: This research is expected to become the standard operating procedure (SOP) for independent nursing interventions in PMK.
