Abstract

Background: Stroke is a brain attack caused by impaired blood flow in the form of blockage or rupture of blood vessels in the brain, causing brain cells to lack oxygen and blood which causes sudden cell death. One of the roles of nurses is to care for patients professionally. In the process of caring for stroke patients, nurses must have good experience. Experience is a reality that has been owned because experience can be used as a guide and learning for individuals in developing themselves. Objective: To explore and analyse the experience of nurses in caring for stroke patients and the quality of care that has been provided in the stroke care room. Methods: The study used a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. There were 4 participants based on participant criteria using purposive sampling and data saturation. Data analysis was carried out using Colaizzi analysis. Results: This study produced 7 themes, namely nurses' views on stroke patients, nurses' feelings in caring for stroke patients, nurses' obstacles in caring for stroke patients, duties and roles of nurses in caring for stroke patients, nurses' attitudes and behaviors towards obstacles that occur, patient assessment of services performed by nurses and nurses' expectations in caring for patients in the stroke care room. Suggestion: Nurses should further improve their knowledge, patience and skills in caring for stroke patients.
