Abstract

Background: Hospitalization is a condition that requires a child to be cared for in a hospital. This condition causes anxiety in children. This condition also brings impacts on parents, such as feelings of worry, anxiety, and stress of the children’s condition. Parents’ anxiety affects the recovery process for the children, so the nurses’ caring is required. This behavior can reduce parents’ anxiety whose children experience inpatient hospitalization. Objektive : Identify the relationship between nurses’ caring behavior and the anxiety level of parents whose children experience inpatient hospitalization. Method: This is a quantitative study with cross-sectional design analysis that used Kendall’s Tau B. The sampling uses quota sampling involving 54 respondents of mothers whose children were hospitalized. This study applies questionnaires to gather the nurses’ caring and parents’ anxiety data. Result: The univariate analysis of 54 respondents shows the age frequency distribution of the respondents mostly early adults 29 (53,7%), the educational mainly Senior High School 25 (46,3%), the occupation was majority housewives 30 (55,6%). The bivariate analysis shows Ha is accepted with a p-value of 0,001, there is a significant relationship between nurses’ caring behavior and the parents’ anxiety level whose children experience inpatient hospitalization. Conclusion: There is a relationship between nurses’ caring behavior and the parents’ anxiety level whose children experience inpatient hospitalization. Suggestion: Parents are expected to self-prepare physically and psychologically to reduce anxiety while their children are being hospitalized. Nurses should exhibit caring behaviors such as being hospitable, patient, able to listen to and understand patients’ complaints.
