Abstract

The school principal is defined as the driving force behind the progress of teachers' performance and is required to have a broad vision, mission and insight as well as adequate professional skills which include planning, organizing, implementing and supervising the implementation of education. The focus of this research is the role of the school principal with sub-focuses: (1) Managerial role in improving the quality of teacher performance, (2) Role as supervisor in teacher performance in learning at SD Xaverius 5 Palembang. This research is in the form of descriptive research with a qualitative approach which aims to describe the role of the school principal in improving the performance of teachers at SD Xaverius 5 Palembang. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. Data validity uses data source triangulation. Data analysis techniques use data condensation, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the research are as follows: 1) The role of the principal as a manager by planning activities and budgets through school meetings at the beginning of the school year, organizing by dividing the tasks of teachers and staff employees as approved through a decision letter, implementing activities to increase teacher competency by holding training /workshop and supervision, namely in supervising supervision activities, the school principal supervises supervision activities directly. 2) The role of the school principal as a supervisor is to plan a learning supervision program, carry out learning supervision, carry out supervision with class visits and provide follow-up on the results of the supervision carried out
