Abstract

Hypertension is blood pressure of more than 140/90 mmHg, hypertension can cause several complications, one of which is stroke. High blood pressure can cause rupture or narrowing of blood vessels in the brain. Stroke complications can be reduced by the efforts of hypertension sufferers to take precautions. Stroke prevention can be influenced by pharmacology and non-pharmacology and family support is needed in efforts to prevent complications so that hypertension sufferers remain compliant in carrying out treatment programs and a low-salt diet. Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and compliance with taking medication and a low salt diet in hypertension sufferers in the Padang Tuesday Health Center Work Area. Method:Using an analytical survey design with a cross sectional approach to 72 respondents with purposive sampling technique. The data collection tool used the MMAS 8 medication adherence questionnaire and a low salt diet. Data analysis using the Kendall's tau test b. Results: The results of this study showed that the majority of respondents had sufficient family support (72.2%), moderate adherence to taking medication (43.1%) and moderate adherence to a low-salt diet (50.0%). Data analysis showed that there was no relationship between family support and medication adherence (p: 0.678) or family support with a low salt diet (p: 0.821). Conclusion: There is no relationship between family support and adherence to taking medication and a low salt diet in hypertension sufferers. Suggestion: Hypertension sufferers can increase compliance in taking medication and a low-salt diet so that blood pressure remains stable and controlled.
