Abstract

Background: Therapeutic communication is a powerful tool and an important nursing skill that can influence others and achieve positive health outcomes. The impact can be felt by patients who feel that their complaints are heard and receive complete information about their disease, stages of examination and treatment. Knowledge is the acquired skills of principles, understanding and insight that serve as a framework for information. Objective: To determine students' knowledge and attitudes towards the application of nursing therapeutic communication in the implementation of nursing care. Method: The research uses quantitative methods with a descriptive correlation design using a cross-sectional design. The total sample was 39 respondents, the sample used a total sampling technique. The measuring tool uses a questionnaire. Data collection uses Google Form. Univariate and bivariate data analysis techniques. Statistical tests use the Kendall Tau test b. Results: The research showed that 15 respondents had insufficient knowledge (57.7%) and 18 respondents (54.5%) had sufficient attitudes. Based on the Kendall Tau b analysis test on knowledge, the result was a p-value of 0.778 with a correlation coefficient value (τ = -0.044) with moderate strength with a negative correlation and the results on attitude had a p-value of 0.948, which means there is no relationship. The significant value (p=0.778) is greater than the compared value (α= 0.5), which means H0 is accepted so Ha is rejected. Apart from that, the correlation coefficient value is (τ = 0.010) so it can be stated that there is a weak strength with a positive correlation coefficient Conclusion: in this study there is no relationship between knowledge and therapeutic communication and attitudes with therapeutic communication.
