Abstract

There are some inmates in the correctional facility who have an appearance that does not match their gender identity or who appear masculine. This condition is known as gender dysphoria, referring to discomfort with one's assigned sex and gender role. The purpose of this study is to uncover a case study of inmates with gender dysphoria with a fatherless background. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research respondents were two female inmates who had an appearance that did not match their gender. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews, daily observations, and the SSCT test. The analysis technique in this study used thematic analysis. The results of this study are the identification of ambiguous roles or failure to identify gender roles caused by the absence of a father figure, causing the respondents to experience gender dysphoria, which led to lesbian behavior. Subject R experienced all the characteristics of gender dysphoria in the DSM-IV but did not experience one characteristic in the DSM-V, which is the desire to change one's biological sex. Subject S did not experience serious anxiety that interfered with their work and socialization. Like subject 1, subject 2 did not want to change their biological sex. Keywords: Fatherless, Gender Dyshporia, Gender Roles.
