Abstract

Background: According to WHO hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that is the main cause of premature death worldwide.. It is estimated that by 2025 there will be 1.5 billion people worldwide suffering from hypertension and it will cause 9.4 million deaths each year due to hypertension and its complications. Complications that occur include 2 out of 3 people experiencing stroke, heart failure and kidney failure, 1 out of 3 people experiencing vision problems and peripheral artery disease. To prevent complications from hypertension, namely by changing your lifestyle with hypertension management. In hypertension management, there needs to be good self-efficacy and self-management. One effort to increase self-efficacy and self-management is by providing education. Objective: To analyze differences in self-efficacy and self-management of hypertension sufferers after being given hypertension management education. Method: Pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest with 35 samples using incidental sampling technique. Results: The research results obtained after being given the intervention experienced a 100% increase in self-efficacy and self-management scores for all respondents. Before the intervention, all respondents had moderate self-efficacy, namely 35 (100%) and the majority of respondents had sufficient self-management, 27 (77.1%) and after the intervention, the majority had high self-efficacy, 19 (54.3%) and the majority good self-management as many as 18 (51.4%). Based on the Wilcoxon statistical test, self-efficacy (p-value=0.001) and self-management (p-value=0.001) were obtained, which means there was a significant difference in self-efficacy and self-management after the intervention. Conclusion: There were significant differences in self-efficacy and self-management after the intervention. Suggestion: Community health centers and posyandu cadres can provide hypertension management education to patients and future researchers can develop ways to manage hypertension, especially in physical activity/exercise.
