Abstract

Background: Nutritional status is a very important factor for children's growth and development. Preschool-age children are in the golden age period. During their growth and development, children need adequate and high-quality nutrient absorption. Malnutrition can affect the immune system, making children susceptible to infectious diseases, while children with excess nutrition are at risk of obesity, non-communicable diseases and mental disorders. Objective: To determine the nutritional status of pre-school children in Palembang Kindergarten. Methods: This research uses quantitative methods with a descriptive survey approach. There were 45 respondents and sampling in this study using purposive sampling technique. Measuring instruments in this study used calibrated digital body weight scales and microtoise, and the results were recorded on an observation sheet. Research data analysis using univariate analysis. Result: The mean was 5.22 years old and the median was 5 years old from the youngest age of 5 years to 6 years. The majority were male as many as 27 (60%) respondents. The majority of children's nutritional status was good as many as 38 (84.4%) respondents, while overnutrition amounted to 4 (8.9%) respondents, and obesity as many as 3 (6.7%) respondents.. Conclusion: From the results of the study, it was found that the majority of pre-school children with good nutritional status (normal), as well as children with overnutrition and obesity. Suggestion: Maintaining good (normal) nutritional status of children by parents monitoring nutritional status and fulfilling children's nutritional needs. Children with overnutrition need to adjust their nutritional intake and activity needs, while children with obesity need to increase fiber foods, do physical activity, or refer to the hospital.
